Jarrod Parker made his debut for AA Mobile on Monday afternoon, starting against the Carolina Mudcats. The good news is that Parker had good velocity on his fastball and good movement on his changeup, as tweeted by Ben Badler of Baseball America. The bad news is that Parker really struggled with his command, giving up 3 walks and hitting two batters in 3.2 IP. His final stat line was pretty ugly:
3.2 IP, 6H, 8R (7 ER), 3 BB, 5K, 2 HBP, 1 HR; 81 Pitches - 46 Strikes, 35 Balls
Parker gave up seven runs in his final inning, the 4th. He hit two batters in a row, including one with the bases loaded, and then gave up a grand slam to 1B Mike Costanzo. Even though Parker was able to throw all of his pitches successfully, the command and stamina will take some time to return, which is to be expected for pitchers coming back from Tommy John surgery. Of the 11 outs recorded, 5 were strikeouts, 3 were ground ball outs (1 DP), and 2 were fly ball outs. Of the five strikeouts that Parker recorded, four were strikeouts swinging.
