The Diamondbacks had a very strong draft in 2009, and most of their top picks are playing very well in the 2010 season. Most of the organization's top players drafted out of high school are playing for the Class A South Bend Silver Hawks in the Midwest League, while some of the more advanced college hitters have started with High A Visalia in the California League. Here's a quick update on some of the 2009 draft picks.

Bobby Borchering was the team's first pick in the 2009 draft, and #16 Overall. He was just named the Midwest League Hitter of the Week after going 9 for 21 (.429) with 3 HR and 5 RBI. Borchering, a switch-hitter, homered twice from the right side and once batting left-handed. After a slow start, Borchering seems to have found his swing.

Matthew Davidson was a compensation pick between the 1st and 2nd Rounds, #35 overall. Davidson had his best game of the year on Tuesday night, slugging 2 HR and driving in 4 in a 7-5 win over the Lansing Lugnuts. Davidson is tied for the team lead in HR with 3, and leads the club with 17 RBI. He is ranked in the Top 5 in the Midwest League in both SLG and OPS, and it's worth noting that all of the players ranked ahead of Davidson are 21 or 22, while Davidson is still only 19. One troubling stat - Davidson has struck out 26 times and only walked once.
