After throwing 149 pitches in his no-hitter on Friday, Edwin Jackson will get a few extra days off and will not start on Wednesday against the Cardinals. Most likely, Jackson will instead go on Friday or Saturday against the Dodgers. But who will get the start on Wednesday? Manager A.J. Hinch hasn't named the starter yet, and it may depend on the bullpen usage over the next two games. With Dontrelle Willis scheduled to start on Tuesday, it is likely that the bullpen will be used quite a bit before Wednesday, so a call-up seems likely. So what options do the Diamondbacks have?
  • Kris Benson is still on the DL, and probably needs to start a rehab assignment before he can start in the Majors.
  • Bryan Augenstein started in AAA on Sunday, and is probably not available.
  • Wes Roemer started on Saturday, and would also be on short rest.
  • Kevin Mulvey is the scheduled starter for Reno on Monday night; if Reno skips Mulvey tonight, that would be an indication that he could be Wednesday's call-up.
  • Cesar Valdez is scheduled to be Reno's Tuesday starter. Valdez had a poor start in his last AAA outing, and didn't show much while he was in the Majors.
  • Matt Torra last pitched for Reno on Friday, so Wednesday would be his normal turn. Torra has had a few decent outings in a row, although he still is not getting very many strikeouts. Torra is not on the 40-Man roster right now, but a slot could be opened by moving Clay Zavada to the 60-Day DL.
Brandon Allen Brandon Allen had a big game for AAA Reno on Sunday, collecting three hits, including a grand slam in the 9th inning that brought the Aces to within one run of Salt Lake City. Allen has hit 3 HR with 11 RBI over the last 10 games, and now has brought his season totals up to .265/.419/.500.
